JMHS Cosmetology Returns to SkillsUSA

Congratulations to James Monroe High School’s Cosmetology II and III students who participated in SkillsUSA Day at the 2026 Virginia State Fair, including one student who earned seventh place in the Fantasy Manikin Comb-Out Competition. After 10 years without competing or active SkillsUSA membership, the Cosmetology program returned this year with 25 student members. Thank you to new SkillsUSA Advisor Mrs. Oliver-Ragland for her leadership and to the teachers and administrators who helped make this opportunity possible. We’re proud of our students’ hard work and creativity and excited to see what comes next.

Walker-Grant Students Engineer a Solution

Students in Mr. Smart’s Project Lead The Way class at Walker-Grant Middle School are designing and building prototype prosthetic feet. Through the project, students follow the engineering design process, developing ideas, creating models, testing their designs, and making improvements. This hands-on experience builds collaboration and problem-solving skills while showing students how engineering and healthcare can work together to improve people’s lives.
