Good evening, Gladys West Families,
It's hard to believe it’s already November! Time is flying by, and our holiday breaks will be here before we know it. We’ve had such a great start to the second quarter, and I continue to be so proud of our students and staff.
A huge thank you to our families and students for your patience on Friday afternoon while we navigated the power outage. Many students thought I was playing a trick on them. I had to assure them that I do not have the power to knock a tree down on a power line! Our students did an amazing job dismissing in the dark and showed true G.A.T.O.R. pride by staying calm, helpful, and positive. We appreciate their teamwork and great attitudes in an unexpected situation.
Important Reminders
No School on Tuesday, November 4: There are only 15 schools days in November, which makes daily attendance more important than ever. Every day counts toward your child's success.
Report cards & VALLSS scores were sent home last week. Please take a few minutes to review them with your child, and don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions.
dude.be nice t-shirts: Please be sure to place your t-shirt order by Monday, November 3. We can’t wait to see all of our students wearing their shirts at our December assembly as we celebrate kindness and community! Contact the office if you need another order form.
Instructional Corner
3rd Grade Families: Ask your student what helps them infer the meaning of a word in a text. If they say context clues, they're right! When reading at home, encourage them to use those clues to figure out unfamiliar words.
4th Grade Families: Ask your student to explain what antonyms and synonyms are and see if they can come up with a few examples.
Check out our latest GWES Newsletter! It's filled with important dates, upcoming events, and school highlights you won’t want to miss. You can find it linked on our school website or through our weekly family emails.
Thank you, as always, for your partnership and support. We’re looking forward to another great week at Gladys West!
Warmly,
Mrs. Wheeler
