Miss Sayles 3rd grade class enjoyed their tour of the police department as junior officers! They learned about a patrol team and detective team, finger printing process, and how they use video footage to capture evidence of suspects. They thoroughly enjoyed the obstacle course!

REMINDER: There is no school for students Monday, May 13, 2024.

Find the Good in Every Day!
Positive thinking can have many impacts on your mental health. Research shows that when we focus on the good, we are able to better cope with everyday challenges. Take a few minutes each day next week to focus on the positive.
Monday- Make a list of 5 things you are grateful for today.
Tuesday- Practice positive self-talk.
Wednesday- Start a conversation about mental health. Need an example of where to start, ask your family "Has anything happened recently that made you feel happy, sad, or worried?"
Thursday- Drink some water! Our bodies are made up mostly of water and it is vital to keep us hydrated and healthy.
Friday- Take a break from screens (cell phones, computers, TV's, etc.). Enjoy fresh air or play a game as a family!

Nurse Appreciation Day was May 8, 2024. Every day they tend to all the medical needs of all our HMES Patriots. Cuts and Brusies don't stand a chance when these ladies are around. Thanks for all you do. 🩹🩹🤕🩹🤕🤕🩹

Teachers want to send a Big Thanks to HMES PTA for all the wonderful treats this week. We were popping with popcorn, quenching our thirst with a hydration bar, and we also satisfied our sweet tooth with a sweet treat from Nothing bundt cakes.

Not All Heroes Wear Capes
Stop by any cafeteria to watch school nutrition professionals prepare healthy meals for students-all the while adhering to strict nutrition standards, navigating student food allergies, and offering service with a smile- and you'll see they are true heroes.
This is the reason we celebrate School Lunch Hero Day every year on the first Friday in May. This annual observance is a chance to showcase what a difference school nutrition professionals make in the lives of every child who comes through the cafeteria.

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Did you know that 1 in 5 people will experience a mental health condition this year? Stay tuned all month long for tips to support your family's mental health.
Green is the official color for mental health awareness, representing hope and renewal. Join Fredericksburg City Public Schools by wearing green on Tuesday, May 14th.

This week, to celebrate "K" day, first grade students took their force and motion unit outside! Students got to experiment with pushes and pulls, and how the wind can supply us with energy while using kites! A big shout out to our first-grade team AND parents who are supplying students with these engaging educational opportunities! Ms. Bland's 1st grade class
