Members of the James Monroe High School Choir Department traveled to Universal Studios, Florida last month to discover the art of Sound and Recording. They were able to take part in a Foley Sound Design Workshop with a producer and recording engineers from Universal Studios.
The students and chaperones had the best time learning about animation and voiceovers. They were eager to volunteer and try their hand at timing the voiceovers with a clip from Despicable Me. They learned music before traveling and recorded it live in the studio.
The students on the trip represented James Monroe and FCPS in such a positive manner; they were complimented everywhere we went, the studio, the hotel, and the dinner theater we attended. Way to go!

There are state government benefits available to individuals with disabilities. It’s important to understand that benefits such as personal assistance and community support can play an important role in planning for the future. Navigating state disability services can be difficult, time-consuming, and overwhelming. This workshop explains Virginia’s Medicaid Waivers, eligibility for services, and how to obtain this state benefit.

This week, the French Club celebrated Le Chandeleur. Le Chandeleur is held every February 2 in France and is a time for the French to light candles and make crepes. Tradition says that if you are able to hold a coin in one hand while flipping a crepe in the other without dropping either, you will have good luck all year. Luckily our French Club members were able to successfully flip their first crepe!

Today 23 James Monroe students participated in the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce Intern Expo "Oh, the Place You'll Go!" Students interacted with area businesses and learned of local internships and job opportunities. They all participated in mock interviews and sat in break-out sessions such as Dress for Success and How to Make a Linked In. Our students are lucky to be supported and encouraged by the amazing Teachers and the Superintendent.
