Earlier this week, Instructure Inc., an international provider of educational software, announced that it had suffered a cybersecurity incident in late April affecting Canvas. Although the security of the Canvas system has been restored, data related to students and educators at hundreds of school systems and universities around the country were subjected to unauthorized access.
Canvas has assured us that they are investigating the matter.
Fredericksburg City Public Schools utilizes Canvas as our online learning system. According to the information currently available, the data potentially involved may include certain personal information; however, Instructure has indicated that passwords, dates of birth, government-issued identification numbers, and financial information do not appear to have been affected.
Planning and preparation have been at the forefront of our actions. We have spent considerable time monitoring and discussing this situation as well as collaborating with neighboring school divisions, insurance companies, and data experts.
Again, the breach was limited to Canvas internal systems, while the security of our network was never disturbed.
We are taking the Canvas data breach seriously and will continue to keep you informed as we learn more.

Recaps from last night's Advanced Orchestra performance 🎼. What an amazing display of talent and prestigiousness, our students are amazing! At the moment these photos were captured, students were performing their favorite song "Dragon Hunters!" Each orchestral unit did well!

Yesterday, Jayem and Walker Grant finally met their Spanish II pen pals! They played UNO, ate ice cream, and exchanged their final letters with one another. Thank you to Ms. Bonilla and Ms. Simon for hosting this for our kids 😊, we ❤️ you!

More memories from yesterday's pen pal activity! Go students!

Here's a recap of Mr. Horak’s class bringing the energy for their final big push for the Reading SOL they took today! Students teamed up, tackled questions together, and then took it to the board to confidently defend their answers and thinking.
The room was full of collaboration, critical thinking, and students stepping up and owning their learning. Exactly the kind of momentum we love to see heading into testing 💪📚

Let's face it. The proof is in the pudding. WGMS Tigers ROCK! Major congratulations to Omari Thompson, an esteemed and dedicated 8th grade student-athlete who recently broke the state record for discus! That's right - HE's NUMBER 1!!! 🔥🐅. We are proud of you, Omari. Let's go!

Students from Ms. Bonilla's class held a luncheon for their patrons yesterday, which turned out to be massively successful! Patrons were able to place orders, commune with friends and dine, and eat some tasty cuisine! Go Tigers!!!

Our middle school scholars worked hard to create their own brand. They calculated production cost, created advertising, and wrote business letters pitching their ideas to some of the top sneaker companies.
We will be donating our sneakers to the local shelter but wanted to give you all a chance to view the amazing variety of pairs! Let's clap for our wonderful students 👏👏👏

Ms. Rahn and Mrs. Bane’s class went to the library today for a Word Study Escape Room to get ready for the Reading SOL and it was so much fun! 🎉
Students teamed up, cracked word clues, and put their vocabulary skills to the test. Lots of laughs, great teamwork, and learning happening all at once. We love seeing our students engaged and having fun while preparing for success! 📚✨

Last week, our Criminal Justice Club students got to work a crime scene! The students were able to use their critical thinking and investigation skills to explore forensic analysis. Nice job!!! 🐅
